Ooops. Little late

Well, this PAST tuesday we got basil, bok choy, tomatoes, radish, green pepper, acorn squash, arugula, flat greens of some kind?, sweet potatoes and…..I think that is it.

It has been a whirl wind week for me as I had my final on Monday, my dearest daughter has been very sick and my husband and son went out of town together.

Bok choy is a new one this week!

So, in addition to bok choy we also received arugula, spinach, radish, sweet potato, tomato ( I always SO want to put an E on the end of those words. Thanks PHONICS!), eggplant, red peppers and tiny little green cabbage.

Tonight I made a sassy slaw with radish, kolrabi and green cabbage dressed with apple cider vinegar, EVOO, garlic, french mustard, salt, pepper and maple syrup.

I plan to saute up some of those greens with some onion and garlic and store them in the freezer for pizza topping later this season. I like it with sliced apples or pears and some stinky cheese like our local herbed cheddar or some kind of blue cheese.  I don’t make my own pizza dough because Trader Joe’s makes it so easy to cheat. And cheap.

We are still loving that cheese zuch pancake but I am thinking it would be good with spinach and arugula too? Don’t you think?

We haven’t used any sweet potatoes yet because it has been TOO darned hot!

I want to say it was great to see Nestor today. He is a sweetie. He will go back to Mexico City the week the CSA ends so if you  see him before he goes…wish him well!

One of our members, the O’Shea family is looking forward to a new addition this month and lets send them all warm and lovely wishes for a terrific delivery and health to mama and new baby!

I got to play with baby Frank today, Laura’s son and I am in love with him. Karyn, our ever trusty and always there volunteer brought her wee little chick Fiona today and she is as pretty as a picture.

It was really nice to be at the CSA today after being gone for so long from the volunteering! I have missed everyone and it was good to see those I got to say hey! to. Thanks to Paul for planning our number system and making selecting your veggies so easy and less work for the volunteers.

I do want to remind all volunteers that set up to MARRY the crates so there is less at the end. I gave Nestor about 24 crates today and that was a LOAD to get out of the school and we don’t want to crowd them out too badly. When ever you can, consolidate the crates and give the empties right back to Nestor before he leaves. We only had about 14 crates today and that makes it easier for the person who breaks it all down.

We are really winding down and I am already thinking I am going to miss all my  yummy stuff when the CSA ends this winter. I hope you all continue to visit Joan at her location on Saturday’s in Waverly. That Farmers Market is open YEAR ROUND people!

Thanks…we are 2/3 of the way through our first CSA year

Thanks to all our volunteers who have worked so hard lately! Thanks to Jenny and Maribel who tracked down the missing clipboard! Yay!

Thanks so much for picking up your food, hanging in there with us this first year, supporting PPPCS in those donations of shares sold by the group and for supporting a worthy cause like a CSA.

We are all part of something bigger and this one small thing you do isn’t really small at all.

Thanks so much everyone for making this successful!

More greens, it feels like spring

Arugula, spinach, green leaf lettuce, kolrabi, tomatoes, eggplant, yellow peppers….and what was our 8th thing?

I put the veg away. I can’t remember. Hmmmm…..

Yummy kolrabi sliced in a salad with the peppers and the last of our parsley for dinner tonight. Chicken Caccitore with boneless organic chicken thighs, Joan’s peppers, squash, tomatoes and some conventional red onion, garlic and bay leaf. Served over rotini. Yum.

So, are you all happy to see the greens return? We are gonna have to buy some more organic ground beef and make more meat and veggie meatballs!

It is officially fall and we are loving the cool nights, warm days but lets all wish for some rain?
